UPDATE 6/21 - Dates added to tour listing The Unsettling Dark : January 4th, 2008
As many of you may know, this summer we recorded a new album. This will be our full-length debut, titled “The Unsettling Dark”. The album is due to be released in the US on February 5 via Candlelight USA, and in the UK/Europe on March 3, through SOAR/Candlelight Records. Tracklisting is as follows: 01. Introduction Martriden Featured in Terrorizer Magazine! : June 26th, 2007
Martriden was recently reviewed and featured in Terrorizer Magazine. Transcription of the review and picture of the feature below: In an era where death metal is suffering all manner of indignities from folks who don’t seem to entirely get the gist of it, with weak blastbeats and unacceptably nondescript growling haunting metal records the length and breadth of the downtuned battlefield, it’s a relief to come across an outfit who not only appear to know what time it is, but are so efficient at conjuring up an atmosphere of windswept majesty that we’re even willing to excuse their tub-thumping oft resembling a drum machine. Montana based Martriden’s self-titled slab of salvation is a veritable masterclass in frost-bitten, blasting gloom, marking a dusky marriage between the weighty sturm und drang of Opeth and the symphonic standing-on-a-mountaintop grandeur ( if not exactly the riffs_ of Emperor, and elevated above the vast hordes of similar hue by some sparklingly spine chilling melodics that miraculously manage to steer clear of standard issue swedeath riffage. With wide-screen sweep worthy of Peter Jackson and sword-wielding intensity aplenty, this bunch of visually unappealing fellows are enough to renew faith in the fine art of the raised horns in even the most jaded cynic.
8/10 - Jim Martin Terrorizer ![]() Studio Report 1: Drum Tracking : June 24th, 2007
Here are some selected clips from our first week of recording. Jeremy Portz did an astonishing job with our material, and the songs are shaping up to be killer! Enjoy. Martriden Featured in Metal Hammer Magazine! : June 21st, 2007
Martriden was reviewed and featured in Metal Hammer. Martriden Who knows why the fact that these Black Metallers hail form the great plains state of Montana should come as a surprise? It does, though. Most US Black Metal that reaches outside these shores tends to be of the ‘outsider’ variety- possibly because afficionados tend to number in single figures in most American Towns and Cities. But Martriden’s impressive debut EP is firmly in the mainstream tradition of the best Scandinavian bands from Bathory onwards. There’s even a faint whiff of Opeth influence in the extended epic song ‘In Death We Burn’. It’s maddeningly brief, but hopefully a taster of a more in-depth album to come. Incidentally there’s something refreshing about Black Metallers called Kyle, Shane, Will and Michael who haven’t felt the need to invent absurd pseudonyms like Azbagorgothia and the like. 8/10 Here’s a scan of Martriden’s Metal Hammer Feature in “Fresh Meat”
Martriden Enters Studio! : June 18th, 2007
